Our Review.

Retro looking and very minimalist of a sofa from IKEA introduced in 2008 to replace the Karlanda range – the Karlstad can be made even more Scandinavian with custom vintage legs, tufted cushions, or by giving it a long skirt. It truly is the ideal sofa for DIY hacking.

  1. Do you have any suggestions for replacement cushions? Someone crashed on my couch and it just doesn’t feel the same since.

  2. Hi there. I have a karlstad 3+2 and was curious if it was possible to switch things around to make it a 2+3. Do you know if that’s possible?
    Thanks!

    1. Hey Shelley,

If this is a Karlstad, it is indeed very possible to switch things around and have it in a different orientation altogether :)

      Hope this helps!

  3. We have had a 2 seater Karlstad for a while and wanted to add a chaise. I found one on craigslist but they said its a “stand alone” version – can this tie in to the couch to turn it into the 2+chaise model?

    1. Hey Alex,

The standalone version would mean that its original covers weren’t made with holes as per the “add-on” unit, which allows it to be easily connected with the 2 seater. It is however, very possible to hack the two together but you’ll need to get some nuts and bolts from IKEA possibly.

      Hope this helps!

  4. I have two orange Karlstad sofa beds at the cottage—love them. Can you tell me what size fitted sheets to buy, double (full) or queen? The assembly instructions don’t mention this, and the piece is no longer listed on IKEA’s website, of course.

I could try the two sizes for fit, but we’ve closed the cottage for the season. Any help would be much appreciated.

    1. Hey Pamela,

Thanks for your inquiry – given that the bed is around 200cm in width, it’s best to just get a queen which is around that size :)

      Hope that helps!

  5. I bought a karlstad sofa and the leg broke. I was wondering if I could buy Landskrona brand replacement? Would that work?
