Our Review.
The Friheten was introduced after the discontinuation of its predecessor, the Manstad. While the Friheten functions similarly to the Manstad sofa bed and has a storage compartment under its chaise, it now allows you to change the sofa bed’s configuration by assembling the chaise on the left or right side of the sofa.
The “armrest” on the sofa seat side is also level with as the seats, allowing taller people to stretch their legs more easily without feeling squished up. One of the only downsides to this really budget-friendly sofa bed is that it comes upholstered, which makes cleaning cumbersome.

Hi, I have a three-seater Friheten (not the one with the chaise) and wondering if there’s anything to know about removing the arms for transport. Do they just slide off? I can’t recall how it was put together and I don’t want to break something trying to remove them. Thanks for your help!
Hey Andrew, the arms do slide into the frame but there are nuts and bolts connecting the arms to the main body so if you need to remove them, these have to come off first. Hi,
I hope you can help me please. I recently purchased the Ikea Friheten sofa but unfortunately spilled tomato soup on it. I tried to remove the stain with washing up liquid and it sort of got it out but now that area has turned a lighter colour and there are some water marks. I can’t tell if this is because the washing up liquid has lightened the area or I just haven’t rinsed it properly. Can you help me or do you have any suggestions please?

Sorry to hear that – the trouble with upholstered couches is that you can’t easily wash it, especially after spot-cleaning a certain area so issues like these tend to happen. Typically with cleaning products, it’s always good to test it out on an inconspicuous area first to see if it does discolour the sofa. I haven’t yet heard of a solution to fix this unfortunately.
The only thing we could potentially offer is to hide the stain with a blanket, consider upholstery spray (colour matching would be difficult) or for a more permanent solution it could simply well be just a slipcover to go over the entire Friheten sofa bed.

Hey! I’ve got the Friheten, but it’s the variant without a chaise (https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60341143/#/90341151) – I’d love to get a slipcover for it since it’s so difficult to wash it, but I’m not seeing any clipcovers from comfort-works that are design for this particular sofa, since it has different measurements than the L-shaped one. Am I correct, or just missing something? thanks!

Hi. I wanted to ask how does the variant without the chaise fair with respect to the one with the chaise. Are these couches generally stable and fairly strong? The last non-Ikea sleeper I had bought had coils under the non-chaise seat which would slip out. The coils would then scratch the pullout part.
Hey Ashwin, that’s a good question – we were only able to test these couches on “first impressions” at IKEA and wouldn’t be able to comment on the long-term durability of IKEA’s sofas. As far as we know however, there’s a 10 year warranty on the sofa frame from IKEA should there be any issues with them :)
