IKEA introduced the Hovas sofa in 2009 and many thought it was a replacement to the Ekeskog model. They do look suprisingly similiar. These sofas are both discontinued, but we at Comfort Works are still making the slipcovers!
If you are looking for slipcovers for these models, here’s a useful road map to tell the differences:
If you have an Ekeskog couch and just bought a Hovas slip cover, you will find that only the cushions will fit. However, the Hovas sofa frame slipcover will not fit on the body of the Ekeskog couch being a few cm short.
The back of the Hovas also extends out over the arm rest cushions while the Ekeskog’s back ends before the arms begin, as below: (original photo credits to goldenboysandme.com)
Here are more differences:
Comfort Works now makes slipcovers for the Hovas 3-seater sofa, footstool and armchair.
Meanwhile for the Ekeskog sofa range, we make slipcovers for the 3-seater sofa, sofa-bed, footstool and armchair.
I’ve attached a few pictures below. Go ahead test yourself to see if you can spot the differences ;)
Is this the Ikea Ekeskog or Hovas range?
Update: Courtney from Golden Boys and Me reviewed our Ekeskog slipcovers on her blog and shared this lovely image.

Mar 23, 2023Hi I was wondering if you could make me a ekeskog corduroy cover? That’s what I currently have and need a replacement and really really like the corduroy cover.

Apr 25, 2019Has anyone tried to put an Ekeskog cover on a Hovas sofa? The Hovas is a bit shorter so I think it will fit..just be a bit baggy?
Chuck
Apr 26, 2019Hey Shannon,
It’s a bit weird that you’d have an Ekeskog cover for the Hovas sofa but we generally wouldn’t recommend it. Our friends at Goldenboysandme had a Hovas cover fit over the predecessor Ekeskog here actually: http://www.goldenboysandme.com/2016/02/comfort-works-custom-slipcover-review.html
The backrest is the crucial difference, and I’m quite sure it’s going to look pretty bad simply because the shapes are different – almost like fitting a square in a circle.
Best to get a Hovas cover if you have a Hovas sofa at the end of the day :)
Hope this helps!

Oct 25, 2017I would like to order new cushions for our 2 Ekeskog sofas. I’m not sure if the are 3 seaters or sofa bed. I do remember that the cushions can be flipped over to make a bed. They are flatter and firmer on the one side of seat cushion. Does this indicate sofa bed model? Thx for your help!
Chuck
Oct 25, 2017Hi Jo Ann,
The Ekeskog sofa bed seat cushions are significantly flatter and have a very unique “L-shape” when viewed from the side. If you can send photos over to us at info@comfortworks.com.au we can easily identify it, but that’s essentially the main difference between the Ekeskog sofa and sofa bed :)
Hope this helps!
