Everything we’re doing to make your sofa more sustainable

Minimising waste is at the core of what we do at Comfort Works. After all, our slipcovers are created with the express purpose of keeping your sofa looking beautiful and out of the landfill. We’re not perfect, but we’re trying our best and the results speak for themselves. Since we started in 2010, we kept over 100,000 sofas out of landfill.

We extend the life of your sofa

Everything we do at Comfort Works is centred around extending the life of your sofa and making it more sustainable. Sofas are big, expensive pieces of furniture and we really don’t want you to throw yours away. The exact stats are hard to find, but there are many worrying reports about sofas and soft furnishings taking up the most space in landfills, and that’s exactly what we don’t want.

Whether your sofa is ripped and stained or just looking a little tired, we’ve developed our products so that your sofa can go on to live a second, third, and fourth life, keeping it in your house (or someone else’s), and out of the landfill.

We make all our sofa covers to order

We cut and sew every single order as it comes in. Image credit: Comfort Works

We don’t believe in mass production, with huge warehouses full of ready-made stock that we need to shift by any means possible. We only start producing each order as it comes in, according to your fabric choice and style specifications. We buy what we need, when we need it, and we never have excess stock that we need to get rid of.

And we do it all ourselves

That’s our founder Henry surveying the rounds at our production facility. Image credit: Comfort Works

We don’t outsource a single thing, because we’re obsessive about quality control – and it means we’re not expanding our carbon footprint by sending our product around to different manufacturers, middlemen or stockists.

We’re able to hire the best seamstresses, keep our quality control super tight, manage all our stock directly, and keep unnecessary packaging down.

Speaking of packaging…

We avoid single-use packaging wherever possible

Our sofa covers always come in a reusable bag. Image credit: Comfort Works

When you order slipcovers from Comfort Works, they’ll come packaged in a reusable bag that you can then use to store your old slipcovers, home linens or anything else you’d like. (Pro tip: they’re great for toy storage, particularly if you live by a toy rotation system.)

Unless it’s absolutely necessary, to protect our fabrics from the elements on their way to our production facility, we avoid single-use packaging. And we recycle every piece of paper that comes through our offices.

We use every scrap of fabric

We turn our fabric offcuts into samples. Image credit: Comfort Works

We love our fabrics, and we recognise the significant amount of resources that goes into producing them. So we don’t take even the slightest scrap for granted. If you order fabric samples from us (and you really should), the swatches you receive are created from offcuts leftover from when we create our slipcovers.

That means:

  • There’s zero difference between the fabrics used for samples and the fabrics used for covers; what you see is what you get.
  • We use every square inch of our fabric. I don’t know if you’ve figured this out about us by now, but we hate throwing things away. So if we don’t have to, we won’t.

(Btw, those fabric samples? They make excellent coasters. #justsaying)

If we ever find an excess amount of fabric on our hands that can’t be used for slipcovers or fabric samples, we turn them into bags or cushion covers. We never throw them away.

After all, we believe the most sustainable sofa is the one you already own. Make it a beautiful one.

IKEA Harry dining chair review – made for small spaces

Today we’ll be doing an IKEA Harry dining chair review, covering the basics and also its differences in comparison to the IKEA Henriksdal. When it comes to IKEA dining chairs, we consider the IKEA Harry a sibling of the IKEA Henriksdal because they both look so alike.

Apart from their measurements, these dining chairs have almost no disparity when you look at them. Take a look at the image below to see how they differ from each other:

Measurement difference between IKEA Henriksdal & IKEA Harry
Photo: IKEA Henriksdal vs IKEA Harry

Although they look identical, one thing users have noted when comparing both dining chairs is that the Harry is actually smaller than the Henriksdal.

Let’s say you live in a smaller space and you have a rectangular dining table that measures 75cm in width and 90cm in length. With the Henriksdal, you could only fit a dining chair set of 4 around the table. However, with the Harry chairs, you could fit a dining chair set of 6 around the table (despite it being a little tight). The same goes for round dining tables – you can definitely fit more Harry chairs compared to Henriksdal.

If you love hosting and entertaining, the IKEA Harry chairs are a great way to accommodate more people around your dining table.

In terms of comfort, the Harry chair is almost identical to the Henriksdal chair. Although the seat space is definitely smaller, it’s still comfortable enough with a medium-firm seat cushion. The solid back support allows you to sit up straight for hours, so there shouldn’t be complaints about back discomfort after sitting on it for some time.

Rating: 7/10

For a price of USD60, this chair is a pretty good catch. At the time of writing, the Harry chair is available in IKEA US and IKEA Germany, but not in IKEA Britain. You might also want to check with your IKEA local store for stock availability.

Do you own a Harry with the same old dining chair slipcover which has been used for years? Maybe it’s time to switch it up as part of a party decoration or you could even change according to the seasons. If you can’t decide on which fabric for your IKEA Harry dining chair, try getting some Comfort Works fabric sample for free first. You will surely find a cover that you like for your Harry dining chairs.

IKEA Henriksdal dining chair review – belongs in every home

It’s been some time since we did a review, and staring at the Henriksdal dining chair sitting in a corner of our office, I realised we haven’t really written a review for it. So, here we are with an article that should have belonged on our blog a long time ago.

What we like about the Henriksdal dining chair

Easy to assemble. If assembly is always a concern to you, you don’t have to with the IKEA Henriksdal. The way to assemble it is very straightforward, you’re just joining all the pieces where they belong clearly, and screwing them in with the bolts and nuts, so there’s nothing too complicated there.

Watch the video below to see how to assemble an IKEA Henriksdal:

Its versatile design. At first glance, the Henriksdal is a simple-looking chair that fits in with almost any kind of dining room design. From an unpretentious, clean dining room to one with extravagant designs, it’s easy to picture the this IKEA dining chair in various dining room styles.

Perfect height and back support. For a person with a height of 172cm, I can place my feet comfortably on the ground when sitting up straight, thanks to the Henriksdal chair with back support.

Bouncy seat. The spongy seat cushion is higher in the centre and lower towards the 4 edges, somewhat making it more comfortable to sit on due to the thicker cushion. Sitting on it for a few hours would be perfectly fine, whether you’re just chit-chatting with friends or doing some work at the dining table.

What we don’t like about it

Limited colour options. As good as the IKEA Henriksdal is, the colour options on the IKEA UK website are quite limited: grey-beige and light grey. Even so, they are colours that can match well with dining rooms with neutral tones.

Are the IKEA Henriksdal chair cover options not the ones you’d like? We know. As pretty as they look, the options are just too limited. That’s what Comfort Works is here for. Offering more than 70 types of fabric, you’ve got more than enough selections for your dining chair. Take a look at what you can get:

Our Textured Weave series is a strong fabric made for daily wear and tear and heavy washing. If you have an active family with little children, our Textured Weave can save you the hassle. Kids can be messy, but you could make cleaning easy with our chair covers.

The Savannah Saddle is made from vegan leather material and it gives off a luxurious design to your dining space. This fabric material does not need to be washed, wiping it down with a cloth does the trick.

Wear and tear. Honest opinion: the Henriksdal has been sitting (or more, like, sat on) in our office for many years now, so while I sat on it again, the frame did creak a little when I moved on my seat. However, we think it’s still pretty sturdy.

Overall, I’d say it’s a pretty decent dining chair for the price of £70.

Rating: 7/10

Note: At the time of writing, only IKEA UK is stocking the Henriksdal; it seems to have been discontinued in other countries.

Are you a fan of the IKEA Henriksdal but don’t like its limited colour options? That’s okay. Comfort Works offers a wide variety of fabric options for you to slipcover your dining chairs and transform your home into a beautiful one.

IKEA Nils

IKEA Nils in Brushed Cotton Rose

The IKEA Nils is a versatile chair that was made for the dining room but works anywhere in the house. It also has a cute barstool to go with it. We couldn’t decide which shade to make the IKEA Nils dining chair covers in and finally settled with Brushed Cotton Rose. The muted, blush pink is both luxurious and silky-smooth, and blends in breathtakingly well with both warm and cool tones.

IKEA Henriksdal

IKEA Henriksdal in Brushed Cotton Ash

The IKEA Henriksdal is the most comfortable of all the dining chairs IKEA has to offer and comes with an elegant touch. We also have an IKEA Henriksdal review if you’d like to know more. For the choice of IKEA Henriksdal dining chair slipcovers, we went with the Brushed Cotton Ash. The soft, pastel grey of the Brushed Cotton Ash is a complement to earthy base tones. Throw a deep, navy blue rug under these chairs and the colour stands out, yet somehow, blends in.

Brushed Cotton, made-to-measure

We even have the Brushed Cotton for custom, made-to-measure dining chair covers because we thought that everyone should have a feel of the fabric in their dining areas.
