Why do you need dining chair slipcovers?

You’ve heard about sofa slipcovers, but did you know about dining chair slipcovers?

A slipcover is a piece of fabric that goes over your dining chair (or sofa) as a layer of protection or for aesthetic purposes. Our slipcovers are made to fit perfectly on your chair with easy installation using Velcro straps.

Watch this video to see how simple it is to install our dining chair slipcovers:

Here are some of the reasons to get dining chair slipcovers:

Set up the party atmosphere
If you often organise house parties, switch up the look of your home and impress your guests. Whatever your theme may be, get into the mood of the party with new dining chair slipcovers. A good setting makes the event more memorable and the photographs will turn out great too.

Better relationship with your children
Are you really going to nag or scold your child for every drop of soup on the dining chair cushion? Avoid stressing over little things like this which can cause your child to be more cautious around you. Dining chair slipcovers protect the cushion and you can machine-wash them when they get dirty. Skip the upset dinner times and look forward to enjoyable evenings with people closest to you.

Change with the seasons
Swap the dining chair slipcovers according to the season. During the colder months, cosier fabrics such as our Classic Velvet will keep you warm and comfortable during family dinners or even your WFH sessions. When the weather gets warmer, opt for cool, temperature-regulating fabrics like Pure Linen or Comfort Chenille to keep out the heat.

There’s more than 1 type of fabric

From heavy-duty fabric to pure linen and vegan leather, achieve the dining room design you’ve always wanted with Comfort Works dining chair slipcovers. Our fabric options include Claw-proof Velvet, Performance Weave, Pure Linen etc., and each of them serves a function for your lifestyle.

For example, the Claw-Proof Velvet is best suited for families with pets as it’s very tightly woven so that your pets are unable to sink their claws into the fabric.

If there tends to be spill accidents in your household, then our liquid-resistant Performance Weave would be perfect because you can easily wipe off liquids with a cloth.

For a more sophisticated and relaxed design, go for our Pure Linen range that can keep your friends and family sitting at the dining table for hours.

Check out more fabric colours and styles we have here.

If you prefer to have a little flair to your dining chair slipcovers to make it uniquely yours, you could add customisations to them such as pipings, bows, buttons, flanges and skirts of different lengths. Just send an email to us beforehand because we don’t want to promise what we cannot do and in turn, disappoint you. :(

The list of slipcoverable dining chairs go on and on. Our core lies in creating beautiful, custom-made slipcovers for almost every sofa and dining chair in the world.

We’ve been covering IKEA’s most popular dining chair models – the Henriksdal, Harry, Nils, Bergmund and Sakarias for years. If you have these dining chair models, lucky you! Placing an order is much easier as you do not need to measure the chairs. We have years of experience plus a team of talented seamstresses to help us make the perfect fit for these dining chairs.

Even if your dining chair is from other brands like Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, Restoration Hardware and even names that are unheard of, we’ve got you! Just a few extra steps:

1.Measure your dining chair (we need the right measurements to create the right fit)
2.Send us a few photos of the chair (it helps us determine the best way to sew your customised slipcover)

It does take a few emails back and forth to make sure the measurements and style are correct. But, remember, we’re both working on this to get the best results to beautify your dining room. So, let’s do this together!

While we can cover many, many types of dining chairs, there are certain limitations to the kinds of design that we are able to accommodate. Read on to see what kind of dining chairs we can cover and cannot cover.

We can do it!

Your dining chairs are pretty safe to be slipcovered by us if they have the characteristics described below:

From left to right: Crate & Barrel, CB2, IKEA.

1.Dining chairs that come with an original slipcover
2.Dining chairs with a straight back
3.Bar stool

Unfortunately, we can’t make everyone happy.

1.Dining chairs with a curved back, together with legs that extend above the seat and are connected to the back cushion can’t be slipcovered.
2.Unless you want a long skirt slipcover that covers the whole dining chair, we can’t make it because of the wooden arms that hinder the way we make the slipcover fit perfectly.
3.The little pointy part of the armrest that juts out is the reason we don’t cover it because it complicates the measurements.

Slipcovers need some TLC too

Most of our slipcovers are machine-washable, making your life so much easier. However, they should never be tumble-dried because this would cause them to shrink or lose their function. Drip-dry them in the shade and put them back on while still a tiny bit damp is the best way to maintain them for a longer period of time. Our leather range cannot be washed in any way, using only a dry cloth to wipe it down should do the trick. Click here for more information on how to care for our fabrics.

That’s what she said (about our slipcovers)

If you’d like to know more of how we work with you, take a look at some of our customer reviews:

“They fit really well. The Ikea slipcovers have little pieces of velcro on the inside that attach to the chair frame to keep the seat part of the slipcover in place. I did not even think to ask Comfort Works about adding something like that.”

“I like that tailored look, and the fact that they have been on the chairs for a solid month and I can’t see any grubbiness whatsoever – in my house that is amazing!”

-Lisa from Shine Your Light

“I tend to notice any imperfections, and these covers are made with perfect seams and tailored very well to my chairs. They are not quite as tight as the IKEA Henriksdal covers, but it’s definitely a bit easier to get these on without breaking a nail tugging and pulling them over the chair! I like the slightly relaxed fit and the warm feel that the textured fabric gives, especially for this time of year! I know these are going to look perfect with my neutral, glam holiday decor too!”

-Jessica from House Full Of Summer

The top 10 IKEA sofas of 2025

So you’re on the lookout for a sofa that gives you serious bang for buck — but you’re not pursuing just about any trendy sofa and hoping it has lasting power.

Think of some sofa brands off the top of your head, and the household name IKEA usually lands a spot in the mix (and does so for a solid reason). IKEA has shown that price is not a factor for birthing cult-favourites and modern-day classics. A good deal of sofa models even pass the ergonomics test — which meant that these sofas are designed for appropriate daily use, not adding strains to our back and neck health.

Excited to know which made our top 10?

But first. How did these top 10 IKEA sofas make the cut?

Are these ranked based on comfort vs. quality? Or simply the most affordable and modular couches put together?
Undoubtedly, sofas meant a whole lot more to us during the first years of global pandemic. In fact, comfort became a fashion statement in itself. We get it, considering Netflix binges, power naps, long zoom meetings are done from the sofa.

Fast forward to 2025, is comfort and modularity still king? We think not. Our top IKEA sofa picks are based on these criteria:

Popularity: How long they have been on the market.

Variety: How many sizes and styles there are to choose from.

Aesthetics: Just how pretty they look.

Comfort: How comfortable they are.

1. MORABO

Let us preface by saying this — we’ve got a soft spot for sofas that combine a classic shape with durable materials.

The MORABO has cemented itself as an IKEA classic for decades. Sophisticated and sturdy, it is for those who like their furniture to feel a little grown up. It’s got that leather-club-chair energy but without being too heavy or old-school.

The proportions? Spot on. Deep enough for lounging but structured enough for serious conversations. It’s one of those IKEA sofas that feel high-end without the eye-watering price tag.

Simple as they come, the MORABO is impressive on the adaptability end. It comes as a single chair to cater groups as large as five with its sectional. Needless to say, our absolute favourite is the armchair in Gunnared light green.

Price: $349.00

2. SÖDERHAMN

You’re alone. It’s the weekend. Who doesn’t love sprawling out freely at home?
It sure seems like IKEA took note of this, and designed the SODERHAMN.

Wide, low, and endlessly modular, this one’s evidently made for anyone who takes their lounging seriously. It has a minimalist frame and feather-soft cushions that make it deceptively comfy.

It’s also ridiculously versatile. With arm, without arm, or a corner section piece. Whatever the configuration, you can build a massive corner setup or keep it small and sleek. We like how chic this two-seater looks.

It plays beautifully in open-plan apartments and sunlit studios. When paired with relaxed, linen-blend slipcovers? Chef’s kiss.

Price: $649.00

3. ÄPPLARYD

The APPLARYD is a definite head turner among the lot of IKEA sofas. Something comes to mind when we take a hard look at its silhouette — the ZAZA by King Living with its arm tucked in. But only at a fraction of its price.

Since its debut, we know why it’s a crowd favourite and a strong lasting contender.
Slim legs, tailored look, and subtle curves. This one’s ideal for anyone curating a slightly more modern, elevated living room aesthetic. Speaking of looks, the IKEA APPLARYD’s medium firm fitted cushions help retain its iconic shape. If we had to pick a module, it’d be this wide two-seater specifically in Gunnared light blue.

Afford a bigger couch? Have the right shade of three-seater sofa cover colour with tropical printed tapestry or pillow covers and wooden elements, it can almost fit right into a set of The White Lotus.

Price: $1049.00

4. FINNALA

At first glance, the FINNALA may not typically look like a living room centrepiece (we said it). But it reminds us of that dependable friend who’s surprisingly flexible.

Its predictable design also works in the favour of being adaptable to the different changes of seasons and interior styles. If you’ve got pets, kids, or a habit of rearranging your furniture on a whim, this one’s a no-brainer.

The cushions hold their shape well over time, and there’s hidden storage for modules with a chaise (hidden storages aren’t celebrated enough). All that’s left to do is have enough sofa cover variations throughout the year to switch up the looks based on your liking.

If we had to pick one, the armchair in Grann/Bomstad black would come out on top. It subtly reminds us of a quiet luxury — the Cassina LC3 Grand Modele Armchair. Not entirely, but with some reinforced tubular steel cage, close enough. If your preferences lean towards practicality, you’ll find great value in the IKEA FINNALA.

Price: $800

5. JÄTTEBO

Here’s one that flies under the radar but totally deserves more attention.

You know that feeling of wanting a sofa that doesn’t scream attention but ranks high in the stunning department? That’s JATTEBO in a nutshell. It’s large. It’s grounded. And yet, unmistakably modern chic. What we love even more about the JATTEBO series is its range of modules. Who knew such a simple silhouette could come in so many forms?

Functionally, the JATTEBO isn’t lacking in the slightest. With storage built into every module and seriously deep seats, you’ll be happy to know it efficiently does both lounging and living.

Create a massive modular setup or keep it neat and compact. This one’s great for small flats that still need big energy. See other sofa brands made for small apartments according to Elle Decor’s very own Tatjana Freund.

Price: $1,500 for a love seat

6. KLIPPAN

A true classic. Nothing more, nothing less. The round-cornered KLIPPAN has been around longer than most of us care to admit, but it’s still one of the most recognisable (and reliable) IKEA sofas.

Why? It’s compact, light, and easy to move around — perfect for renters, first homes, or anyone after a fuss-free setup. What we’re banking on though, is in its potential. We’ve seen major glow-ups in cosy student flats to stylish studio lofts. All it needs is a little TLC in the sofa cover department.

As simple as the KLIPPAN comes, think of it as a canvas that awaits a touch of character in the form of a sofa cover. When you’re bored of it, simply switch out the covers to fall in love again.

Price: $349 for a love seat

7. KIVIK

This one’s high up in the charts if comfort is a non-negotiable. Well, that’s the least a plain-looking sofa could offer (at least to us). No matter how much we sat on the KIVIK after another couch, it did not disappoint.

The upsides are found in the slightest of design cues. Ergonomically, its low-positioned armrest is such a breath of fresh air in the IKEA sofa lineup. We use it to rest a tray of snacks, and even doubled it as a headrest for power naps (who needs a sofa bed?).

If you do need a sofa bed, IKEA KIVIK also comes in a generous amount of modules. It starts from an ottoman to sizes that fit up to a crowd of five.

There’s a reason why the KIVIK makes it to plenty of best sofas list, including Wirecutter — it has earned its keep by the value it brings for its pricepoint.

Price: $849.00

8. ESSEBODA

We liken the ESSEBODA to IKEA’s elegant nod to classic British and American sofa styles. It’s the blend of deep seats and turned legs with a refreshingly modern, relaxed touch.

Granted, this isn’t the most ergonomically comfortable couch (pocket strings, they’re OK), but we find ourselves choosing to sit on the ESSEBODA 60% of the time at our office amongst other sofas. Could it be the alluring colour of the Tallmyra/blue? Or the remarkably bulbous-shaped backrest? We think both.

The ESSEBODA’s design cue extends below the seat — right on its turned, solid wood legs. A classic detail that reinforces its traditional styling. A closer look and you’ll see subtle grooves, giving them a handcrafted feel. Think Wes Anderson vibes on a real-world budget—romantic, structured, and effortlessly charming. A practical pick with timeless flair.

While we know it isn’t cheap, the aesthetics are pure 10/10.

Price: $1349.00

9. VISKAFORS

It didn’t long before deciding that the VISKAFORS should make the list.
An absolute stunner, this is.

Stylistically, the IKEA VISKAFORS looks like an extension of the ESSEBODA. They would pair gorgeously as a set, each carrying its own character but belonging in the same book. Trust us, all it needs is some warm room lighting to harmonise eccentricity with unique colour combinations — candy colours, pastels and jewel tones.

Admittedly, this one scored highest in having the most firm cushion seats. The good news is, we approve firmness.

If you have a penchant for all things retro, VIKAFORS will not disappoint.

Price: $1399.00

10. SMEDSTORP

If robustness is a non-negotiable, we’ll point you directly to the SMEDSTORP aisle in IKEA.
Not so much for its modularity or colour variation (in fact, those are the two aspects where we think it should improve on).

The SMEDSTORP doesn’t chase trends. It’s the kind of silhouette that fits every era and supports whatever look & feel you’re going for without stealing the thunder.

Its proportions are just right — compact enough for small spaces, and spacious enough to lounge on. This duality helps the couch stay relevant and at home tremendously no matter how often you redecorate. If we had to request something (are you reading this, IKEA?), we need colours and we need more of them.

Price: $1499.00

Our favourite interior design trends for 2022

Home decor and interior design trends come and go – and while we don’t think you should stake your whole home on them, ideas to refresh your space are always welcome.

Personal taste and practicality are the key to creating a home you love, but incorporating your favourite elements  from emerging home décor trends will make your house a truly inspirational living space. Here are some of our favourites we’ve spotted this year – which ones will you be bringing into your home?

Rich, bold colours

2022 looks will focus on making a big impact with bold and vibrant colour choices, and we’re here for it! Expect an abundance of refreshing and reinvigorating greens, including striking emerald and understated hunter green. Pair these hues with beautiful shades of brown for a harmonious scheme.

Apart from green, there’ll also be uplifting and cheerful tones like lemon yellow, tangerine, chinoiserie red, and bold pink to bring some dramatic flair into our lives.

To tap into this trend, dress a neutral sofa with a custom slipcover in a deliciously inviting hue that gives an exciting boost to a muted decor scheme. Pair bold seating with light and earthy soft furnishings for a more balanced finish.

A bright, deep, or intense shade used to craft an eye-catching accent wall can instantly accentuate the look and feel of the entire room.  Art, indoor plants, and scatter cushions are also a brilliant way to infuse this hot living room trend into your interior environment.

Try a velvet sofa for instant luxe

We love how velvet is continuing to be used in all sorts of interior schemes, adding a hint of luxury and adding visual weight and depth to living rooms and bedrooms. Velvet is also a great way to instantly add warmth to more minimal styles that could feel cold or unwelcoming.

Blend this luxe material into your interiors through the use of an upholstered bed frame, decorative cushions, or give an old couch that isn’t really working for you an instant refresh with a gorgeous velvet slipcover. If you’re looking for something eye-catching, let your velvet speak up in a single bold colour and balance the look with muted soft accents.

Natural materials and organic fabrics

Natural materials will be all the rage in the coming season, especially in spaces like the living room. With homeowners seeking more sustainable and responsible living room ideas, expect to see an abundance of tactile materials such as wood, leather, stone and rattan or cane.

To showcase natural elements in the place that matters, incorporate materials and textures that encapsulate your surroundings – everything from natural fibres like brushed cotton, wool, linen and hemp to bamboo, cork and stone surface finishes will get you right into the scheme of things.

House plants continue to rule

A desire for spaces that feel organic, calming, and uplifting will be at the forefront as homeowners continue to create homes that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. As we become more aware of the relationship between our living spaces and our wellbeing, incorporating indoor plants, fresh flowers and foliage further champions the idea that we feel our best when connected to nature.

When it comes to interior design trends for 2022, big leafy plants provide a grounding, refreshing feeling and make great centrepieces in any room. From the perennially popular orchid and maidenhair fern to a more eye-catching prayer plant, indoor greenery brings a whole new dimension to living room decorating.

Black cabinets are back

From black light fixtures to charcoal-hued kitchen cabinets and inky hardware – black is a classic that adds depth to more minimalist spaces. This rich, alluring, and never-goes-out-of-style colour allows you to create complementing and contrasting looks that lend flair to any room.

Team chic, elegant black accents with light, neutral-coloured walls and large sofas, as well as touches of gold for an added pop of contrast. Alternatively, use black as a backdrop for other moody hues such as dusty pink, hunter green, marsala red, or moody blue to create an enveloping vibe.

Gold hardware is having a moment

Need a subtle touch of elegance? Go for gold. It’s making its return via gold cabinet hardware and gold kitchen handles – tiny touches that can elevate almost any scheme.

If you’re not up to swapping out your hardware, try bringing the trend in with a gold photo frame, or gilt accents on sculptural vases, mirrors or lighting fixtures. A combination of gold metallic accents and soft furnishings in blush or emerald might just send you in a spectacular decor direction you might not have considered before. Gold also couples up beautifully with dark wood and velvet upholstered furnishings.

Which of these interior design trends will you be using in your home this year – or are you going for something else completely? Whatever you do, go with your heart and add the things that make you happy. (And ideally, they’d be machine washable too.)
