Top 10 slipcovered sofa brands – A practical review

We all love a slipcovered sofa. Not only can you change up the style of your sofa whenever you like, it’s also great for cleaning up messes. All you need to do is get the covers off, put them in the wash and out they come, looking as good as new.

And since we all share the same love for slipcovered sofas, we’ve put together a list of our top slipcovered sofa brands and took the liberty to review each of them as well.

You will find all you need to know on these brands to help you make an informed choice on your next slipcovered sofa purchase.

So, let’s get started!

Crate and Barrel

Crate and Barrel’s trademark look is sofas that give you the best of both worlds: modern design and the traditional elements of comfort.

Their sofas have less pronounced arms for a more compact look and this allows it to fit into a modern or classic decor with ease. And they also have skirted slipcover designs on almost all their models.

However, their choice of fabric is fairly traditional and closely follows an earthy color palette, despite having choices for patterned slipcovers.

Price Range for 3-seaters: $1600 – $2000

Restoration Hardware

A slipcovered sofa from Restoration Hardware (RH) has these basic traits : a simple design, huge cushions, and an all-over sleek look. And they even have slipcovered beds and headboards!

They have a great variety of sofa designs, which are simple yet elegant. This also means that we can easily order a made to measure slipcover for it, without having to pay the premium price for an original RH slipcover.

They even have special price cuts for their members, so that’s something worth checking out.

Price Range for 3-seaters: $2000 – $3800

West Elm

If you get a slipcovered sofa from West Elm, you will have something that looks like a hybrid between Restoration Hardware and IKEA. They also come in a variety of different lengths, and thus, are able to suit different budget ranges.

West Elm slipcovered sofas have the polished design of RH and boasts the functionality that comes with IKEA. Their choice of fabrics are decent, but they do get repetitive across different models.

Plus, they have products that are sustainably sourced and this means less impact on the Earth. Yay!

Price Range for 3-seaters: $700 – $2000

Room & Board

There aren’t many choices if you’re looking for a slipcovered sofa at Room & Board. But, they are definitely the ones to go to if you’re looking for the functionality of a slipcovered sofa, paired with an exquisitely contemporary design.

This gives their slipcovered sofa range the upper-hand with millennials and people looking to modernize their decor. The brand also has quite a fair number of armless options to leave the designing up to you.

In terms of fabric, Room and Board has more design forward color choices unlike the typical colors from furniture makers.

Price Range for 3-seaters: $1200 – $2000

IKEA

When you think of a slipcovered sofa, you automatically think of this ultra-famous Swedish furniture giant. IKEA boasts a huge range of slipcovered sofas and dining chairs.

IKEA usually plays around with same set of harmonious colors for their slipcover fabrics, with an occasional blip where they have an interesting color choice.

In terms of design, IKEA models are equally distributed between the traditional and modern looks so there’s essentially something for everyone at our favorite (or default) furniture outlet.

Price Range for 3-seaters: $600 – $1000

Pottery Barn

Pottery Barn is where everyone goes to get the traditional slipcovered sofa. It has all the elements of an old-school sofa: pronounced arms, giant cushions and deep seating areas.

Despite having a large inventory of absolutely comfy looking sofas and sectionals that can be slipcovered, Pottery Barn slipcovers have a limited choice of colors and are all made to order (and non-returnable)

The highlight of this brand is that it has flame-retardant options for its polyester and down-blend slipcovers, which is really helpful if you’re a parent or pet parent, just to be on the safe side. But, you would need to pay a premium price for it.

Price Range for 3-seaters: $900 – $2600

Nantuckit

Nantuckit is a goldmine for slipcovered sofa choices. They have both the quintessential sofa as well as the new-school designs so you’d be absolutely spoilt for choice.

They also offer a great selection of fabric choices, from patterned slipcovers to solid colors to natural-look fabrics. Personally, I like that they have both newfangled designs alongside old-fashioned choices.

In terms of design, they stick to the chief elements of a sofa and keep things simple. You’d be able to find a range of cottage-style sofas along with typical square arm sofas, nothing too flashy.

Price Range for 3-seaters: $1600 – $2000

Joss & Main

If you need slipcovered sofas that don’t break bank, your best bet is to find one at Joss & Main. Not only are they affordable, a slipcovered sofa from Joss & Main can fit into any decor imaginable.

The slipcovered sofas incorporate both the old-school elements with the most recent design ideas to give you a sofa that looks great all the time, no matter how you decide to change up the decor.

The only downside is that they have limited fabric choices and keep circling about the same colors. Maybe it’s time they go wild with their fabric color palette.

Price Range for 3-seaters: $700 – $1200

Grandin Road

Grandin Road have a decent range of slipcovered sofas and sectionals but have limited choices. Their designs skew towards the traditional style of a slipcovered sofa, with quite a few models with L-shaped seats.

My one qualm was that they had a fixed set of fabrics for each slipcovered sofa that they had to offer, so that takes the fun out of browsing through the samples and placing a fabric sample order.

On the upside, their sofas are sold at a steal, sectionals included. So that’s a pretty good silver lining.

Price Range for 3-seaters: $400 – $1000

Arhaus Furniture

The choices for slipcovered sofas and sectionals at Arhaus Furniture give us the idea of a brand that’s transitioning from the traditional style into the modern, up-to-date designs of a sofa.

You can find sectionals that blatantly mix the old and new styles, creating a stark contrast that oddly works well with each other. However, these unique designs come with a hefty price tag.

If you’re looking for a slipcovered sofa with almost experimental designs, Arhaus Furniture would be perfect for you.

Price Range for 3-seaters: $1000 – $1300

Final Say

Personally, I like that Nantuckit has a wide range of choices and that they offer slipcover choice for anyone and everyone. But, the most pocket-friendly option would be to go with Grandin Road. But, if you get stumped, you can always head down to IKEA and get a slipcoverable sofa and get a Comfort Works made-to-measure IKEA sofa slipcover.

Now that we’ve given you all the details you need, go out there and get the slipcovered sofa that’s perfect for you. Also, if you run out of choices for a cute slipcover, you can always get a custom, made-to-measure slipcover with us.

8 tips for keeping your dining area safe from kids and furkids

Everyone loves the dining area simply because that’s where all the food is! Kids and pets are the most common visitors of the dining area and although we do love them, they tend to leave behind gigantic messes that take hours to clean.

Most of us have a long to-do list on a daily basis and the last thing we want is to see peanut butter splattered all over the kitchen walls. So, here are 8 tips that can keep the dining area looking spotless, all the time, every time.

1. Safety Gates

This is the simplest solution to all the possible kitchen nightmares that could happen. These gates are pretty easy to install and operate. They safely keep out kids and pets, without having to yell at them at every two-minute intervals.

2. Oil-Based Paint

This is an absolute lifesaver. Just imagine coming home to splats of ketchup all over your wall. But, you’re unfazed because they just come right off with a spritz of warm water and a wipe over. Oil-based paints make it harder for stains to stick onto the paint coating, leaving you with a clean dining area wall, 24/7.

3. Flat-Weave Rugs

Pets are known for their scratching and cats are exceptionally notorious for this. Rugs that have wider, loopy weave tend to hook fairly easily to pet claws and cause pilling in no time. Flat weaves, however, take a lot more time for your pets to scratch through and they’d be to busy with those to try and scratch anything else.

4. Wooden/Tile Flooring

Having kids and pets definitely means that your wall to wall carpet in the dining area is bound to take a few hits. The better option would be to go for wood or tile flooring, which are way easier to clean. You could always have a few rugs here and there, that conveniently go into the washing machine when they seem like they might need a round of laundering.

5. Wooden Shutters

Curtains look great in the kitchen but curious kids and prowling pets don’t let them stay great for a long time. Cats are known to climb on curtains and inadvertently damage them while kids tend to use them as hand-towels. Wooden shutters not only add a natural look to the dining area, they also a breeze to clean.

High-Cabinets

These help keep things out of reach from kids and pets, especially flammable and toxic items you might have in the kitchen or dining area. Plus, storing items away give you a more polished look. You could also use these cabinets to hide treats from greedy little paws and fingers.

6. Kid & Pet-Friendly Fabric Covers

Not all dining furniture were made equal, and when you have the upholstered chairs it’s usually a nightmare to clean – unless you have slipcovers for them.

Machine-washable fabric covers are thus a blessing when you have messy eaters. Even pet hair from pets on food foraging trips to the kitchen comes off leather and velvet slipcovers fairly easily with a lint roller and some vacuum power. Get your custom dining chair slipcovers here for a more strategically protected dining area.

7. Natural Deterrent Spray

Just spray these indoors and on furniture to keep your pets from clawing through everything you have in the house. Be sure to choose ones made from all-natural ingredients and without any chemical additives. You can easily find plant-based ones at your local hardware store. Now, if only they made one that worked on kids too.

8. Colour Coordinate

The easiest way to clean up a mess is to hide it. And what better way to mask the unending bouts of pet hair than to colour coordinate with your pet. If your dining area is more prone to muddy paws and dirty hands, you might want to opt for darker colours for your dining table and chair covers to help conceal stains.

Bonus : DIY Rope Scratching Posts

Pet toys and scratching posts are all fine and well but they don’t necessarily go with your decor. Some DIY spirit and tons of rope could get you a budget-friendly scratching post in no time. Just securely wind a length of rope or twine around pipes or table legs and voila! They double as insulators for your heating pipes (especially from curious little hands) too.

Phew, All Done!

There. We’ve compiled all the dining area hacks that we could think of to keep grubby hands and paws from wreaking havoc in the kitchen. We hope that with these 8 tips, we’ve made life in the dining area much simpler for both you and your kids (and furkids).
